The event is a voting-based awards competition for startups and members of supporting community throughout the region.
Controversies seem to follow this company wherever it goes. These include a recent move from the Minister of Transportation to summon ride-hailing startups operating in Indonesia. But the challenges did not hold Go-Jek back as it claimed champion in two categories of the Indonesian chapter of the Asean Rice Bowl Startup Awards.
In a ceremony that was held on Wednesday night at cre8 coworking space in South Jakarta, Go-Jek was crowned Startup of the Year while its founder Nadiem Makarim scored Founder of the Year title.
Other big names that brought home awards include Tokopedia, under the Best Campaign of the Year category.
For the newcomers, YesBoss won the Best New Comer title while eFishery won the Best Disruptor/Game Changer Award.
Apart from the startups, investors also received accolades. The award for Best Professional Investor was given to Convergence Ventures.
Other awards highlighted the achievements made by individuals who have been supporting the Indonesian startup scene, such as Nadine Freischlad of Tech in Asia who won the Startup Journalist of the Year title; Aulia Masna who won the Best Social Media Influencer title; and Sofian Hadiwijaya as Developer Hero.
Meanwhile, veritrans also won the Tech Support/Service Provider of the Year.

Asean Rice Bowl Startup Awards was initiated by Global Startup Awards, and its Indonesians chapter was held with support from New Entrepreneurs Foundation, Kolaborasi, cre8, and dewaweb.
It aims to “bring light to exemplary entrepreneurship and inspire a networking community of startup enthusiasts, serial entrepreneurs, and diverse mentors” through a voting-based awards competition for startups and members of supporting community throughout the region.
Every participating country will produce a Country Winner from each category that will move on to the Grand Finale at the end of August 2016.
“There’s a lot of potential in Indonesia, but I also know that you also have a lot of infrastructural issues, you got a lot of districts with very different culture and even languages … If you can make it in Indonesia, you can probably survive in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur. So we really want to celebrate Rice Bowl in that manner,” said Lilyana Abdul Latiff from the New Entrepreneurs Foundation in her opening remarks.
