India-based hotel aggregator platform OYO Hotels and Homes today announced the appointment of Alfian Lim as its new Country Head for Indonesia.

Lim’s appointment will replace the position of Rishabh Gupta, who is moving to another strategic position in the company’s global operation.

In a press statement, Dr Mandar Vaidya, CEO, Southeast Asia & Middle East at OYO Hotels and Homes, said that Lim’s appointment is part of the company’s hyperlocal strategy in its global operations.

“Alfian has all the characters of an OYOpreneur with his focus in problem-solving, vast knowledge and experience, emphasis on innovation and customer-first approach –it solidified why he is the right person for the role. His appointment also strengthens our commitment to our hotel-partners and customers of building OYO as a preferred hospitality brand,” he said.

Prior to his appointment at OYO, Lim was a Business Unit Head at Asia Pulp and Paper in Indonesia, a subsidiary of Sinarmas Group. He had also worked at several leading companies such as Bain and Company in Singapore and Hewlett-Packard in the US.

Lim has a masters degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University.

In Indonesia, OYO said that its network of hotels included 41,200 rooms in 100 cities.

Within one year since its operation, OYO claimed to have achieved its target by growing almost 30 times.

OYO recently made headlines when the company announced that it is raising a US$1.5 billion in Series F round.

The funding round came about a year after it raised over US$1 billion. Led by SoftBank Vision Fund, existing investors such as Lightspeed, Sequoia, Greenoaks Capital, and new strategic partners such as Airbnb also participated in the round.
