The hotel, home, and living space chains startup has expanded to 16 cities in Indonesia and plans to be in the top 100 cities in the country this year

Southeast Asia-operated home and hotel room chains OYO has announced its plan to expand presence in 100 cities in Indonesia by the end of this year. Part of its expansion plan is to pour US$100 million more investment in the span of five years into its Indonesia’s operation.

OYO was first launched in October 2018 in Indonesia and immediately established presences in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Palembang with over 1000 rooms. Fast forward today, OYO Hotels is already operating 150 hotels across 16 cities, claiming to have a five-times jump in growth.

“We entered Indonesia with the mindset of an Indonesian company that saw an opportunity to emulate OYO’s business model in India to create something relevant for Indonesia. Each and every aspect of our operations in Indonesia is localised, which had helped us in customising our offering from the point of view of a traveler in the country and what was lacking from his/her experience earlier when OYO was not around. We are definitely betting big on Indonesia,” said Ritesh Agarwal, Founder & Group CEO, OYO Hotels and Homes.

OYO claimed to ride on the smart travelers trend that it has examined in Indonesia. OYO said that smart travelers critically research for high quality, yet affordable accommodation options, which OYO Hotels offers through its technology-led hospitality model.

“We have added 70 hotels every month to our chain. Our operational system is backed by over 400 Indonesians with the understanding of the country’s hospitality landscape and customer value proposition and 70 civil engineers that helped to transform the space for a comfortable stay,” said Rishabh Gupta, Indonesia’s Country Head of OYO Hotels and Homes.

OYO’s localised approach to the market included branded, comfortably furnished rooms with modern amenities and complimentary breakfast, spotless linen, free WiFi, television, and 24/7 support with rates starting as low as IDR 149,000 (US$11) per night and averaging at IDR 230,000 (US$16) per night.
