The Vietnam Innovative Startup Accelerator (VIISA) program, a new accelerator that has launched in Vietnam, recently held its first ‘Investment Day’ in Ho Chi Minh City.

The companies came from all sorts of industries (e-commerce, healthcare, fashion etc.) and pitched in front of investors that included notable firms like NSI Ventures, Spiral Ventures, Cocoon Capital and Golden Gate Ventures.

VIISA invested US$30,000 (US$15,000 in cash and US$15,000 in kind) into each company while providing technical resources, mentorship and office accommodations. VIISA is also partnered with FPT Corporation, Dragon Capital Group and Hanwha Group from Korea.

Promising startups will receive US$200,000 in follow-on funding.

Adrian Tan, the Program Director of VIISA and veteran of the Singapore’s JFDI accelerator, said one initiative of the programme was to help Vietnam create global startups.

“Investment Day is the culmination of months of hardwork from the startup founders and VIISA’s founding members. The support from the startup ecosystem and regional mentors and investors will spur VIISA on to building more global startups in Vietnam,” he said.

To try something different, instead of profiling to companies (and because we already did that in January), we are going to put a video of each company’s pitch below.

From the original list of eight companies, HoneyNet postponed their participation in the programme.
